Our

Story

Whelan the Warehouse is the Timber Recycling division of Delta Group – one of the largest diversified contractors of its type in the world today. Our commercial timber range can be seen across various high-profile projects, including Melbourne Square, Capitol Grand and Burwood Brickworks.

Whelan’s has had the pleasure of working with many high end residential projects, as featured on Grand Designs Australia and The Block, through to our important everyday DIY small projects.

As demand for timber products with unique provenance and unparalleled sustainability principles soars, Whelan the Warehouse has established a strong reputation among Australia’s leading builders, architects and interior designers for high quality salvaged and sustainably sourced new timber.

Timber is sorted, handpicked by our qualified and trained team, processed at our locally based mill, and resold and distributed across Australia at our dedicated Port Melbourne retail and wholesale warehouse.

Our

History

The Whelan the Warehouse history stretches back to 1892 when a family owned demolition company, Whelan the Wrecker, began recycling demolition and construction waste across colonial Victoria. Not much has changed in 129 years, except our timber is now sourced from demolition and construction sites Australia-wide, and from sustainable New Plantation Forests across the country.

Through our vast experience we have established working relationships with the biggest demolition companies around Australia, ensuring we can source the perfect product for any project, no matter how large or small. We provide timbers – new and old – for commercial and high-end residential projects, fit outs for boardrooms, restaurants and bars, and high street retail precincts, through to custom residential fit-outs and small DIY backyard projects.

Our salvage section sources key pieces from some of Australia’s most iconic remodelled and demolished buildings, previously obtaining timber from sites including the MCG and Pentridge Gaol. We love that our products create not only a talking point, but also add a touch of history to today’s projects.

Our love of timber means we are also passionate about the environment; our architectural grade timber is always sourced with sustainability in mind.

As our company has evolved, so have our service offerings. Here at Whelan’s we have a highly trained, skilled and experienced sales team with a passion for timber and helping to bring clients’ projects together. Our artisan custom joiners take pride in designing, machining and manufacturing anything from kitchen bench-tops to commercial fit-outs. No space or concept – residential or commercial – is too challenging.

Whelan the Warehouse has also been part of some of Australia’s largest commercial projects including Burwood Brickworks, the most sustainable shopping centre in the world with a 6 Star Green Star rating. Whelan’s supplied over 10,000 linear metres of cladding for this project, as well as stair tread material, custom made bench seats and rustic wall lining, demonstrating our ability to source in large quantities.

Another noteworthy project that we were thrilled to work on was the city precinct Melbourne Square, where new, sustainably sourced Blackbutt timber was custom machined to meet strict architect specifications.

Whelan the Warehouse dedicated retail and wholesale facility in Port Melbourne contains an array of handpicked new and reclaimed timber products.
Please come in and take a look at our showroom which displays beautiful, handcrafted furniture made from our reclaimed timber, or explore the vast range of timber on-site. If you can’t find exactly what you are after, let us know and we will happily help source it for you.

Our quality standards mean you can approach any project with confidence.
